27/09 ST VINCENT DE PAUL

27th SEPTEMBER is the feast of St VINCENT DE PAUL.

Vincent, was a priest who abandoned the lavish lifestyle and wealth of serving as a priest in the Royal Court in Paris, to minister to the marginalised and forgotten poor of France in the 1600s.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) was founded in Paris in 1833 and aimed to emulate his work. Today, the society of St Vincent de Paul still works locally with the poor, sick, elderly with groups in many parishes caring for anyone who is in any need - not just Catholics!

Some schools also have Mini-Vinnies - pupil groups who help others however they can.

Let us pray:

Father, you gave Saint Vincent de Paul

the spirit of an apostle

to give himself to the service of the poor.

Give us a share of the same spirit

that we may love what he loved

and do as he taught us.

Amen.

Saint Vincent de Paul: Pray for us.
