SEPTEMBER 29th is the feast of the ARCHANGELS.
The Archangels are the named angels in the Bible, along with Lucifer, who isn’t honoured for obvious reasons! This feast celebrates Michael, Gabriel & Raphael.
Angels are spiritual beings that do the will of God in such ways as delivering messages and protecting people. Most of us know about Gabriel, who delivered the good news of the Annunciation to Mary. Like us, angels have free will as we understand through Lucifer’s desire to overthrow God with a third of the angels of heaven. Michael, another archangel, defeated Lucifer's army.
Those who opted for a life without God were graciously granted what they wanted and were ‘cast out’ to a place where they are free for all eternity to live without God. Commonly, we call the rebellious angels 'demons'. Lucifer is understood to be the devil - the one who divides.
There is a prayer to St Michael, asking his protection from those demons who were cast out who seek to hurt and interfere with God’s most precious creation - YOU!
Let us pray:
Saint Michael Archangel, defend us in battle,
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil;
may God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God, cast into hell Satan
and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Archangels of God: Pray for us.
