15/09 OUR LADY OF SORROWS

Updated: Sep 13

On SEPTEMBER 15th, the Church has a memorial called OUR LADY OF SORROWS.

In this feast, we reflect on the Blessed Virgin Mary and the sorrows she experienced as the mother of Christ. Being Jesus’ mum must have been great at times: the healings, the teaching and the miracles. But there were also times of great sorrow - the greatest of these must have been watching her child suffer and die on the Cross. This is why the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows follows the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.

On this feast, we should take the opportunity to pray for all parents who suffer with their children, especially those who suffer with a physical or mental illness. Most parents would gladly take on their children's suffering for them, but instead have to watch on powerless to help.

We ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to pray for all who suffer deep sorrow, especially parents whose children are suffering.

Let us pray...

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,

our life, our sweetness and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears

Turn then, most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb,

Jesus.

O clement, O loving,

O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Our Lady of Sorrows: Pray for us.
